AUO Corporation one of the world's largest manufacturers of TFT-LCD modules, today announced its launch of a series of new TFT-LCD and color plasma display (PDP) modules at FPD Expo Taiwan 2002. The newly released products include Taiwan's first 50-inch PDP module, first 20.1-inch TFT LCD module for television, first 20.1-inch TFT LCD module for desktop monitor, and first reflective 3.5-inch TFT LCD module for PDA.
AU's advanced technologies and efforts in new application fields are evident through the launch of these products. The 50-inch PDP module has an aspect ratio of 16:9, enabling it to meet future viewing trends in digital TV screens. In addition to the world's best contrast ration of 600:1, it boasts 1365x768 WXGA resolution¡A75mm thick, 600 candela/m2 brightness and natural wide-viewing angle of 160¢X. As Taiwan's first company to begin production of PDP modules, AU Optronics has continually invested in PDP R&D technologies and has obtained 38 PDP related patents.
Another highlight of AU's TV application products-Taiwan's first 20.1-inch module for TV-has been first to begin mass production and is designed to provide high-quality displays. It presents color saturation of 72 NTSC % and full color display of up to 16.7 million colors. Other features include high resolution of 800x600 (SVGA), high contrast ration of 500:1 and high response time of 16 ms.
Targeted to the TV application market, AU plans to develop a 40-inch TFT LCD module in the future.
In the desktop monitor application field, the 20.1-inch high-resolution UXGA TFT LCD module is aimed at professional application areas such as banking, graphic design and engineering. Integrated with a high-bright backlight system, the product has a high resolution of 1200 x 1600 UXGA pixels, wide viewing angles (80/80/80/80), high brightness, and high color saturation¡C
As for small-size TFT LCD modules, AU Optronics presents Taiwan's first reflective 3.5-inch module for PDA, the transflective 2-inch module for mobile phones featuring COF (chip on film) packaging technology, and 6.5-inch and 7-inch modules for car navigation. TFT-LCD modules for PDA and car navigation are the main focuses of AU's audio/video application this year.
